You may or may not be aware of the current fire protection situation we have in our business community, although it is a hot topic (no pun intended), the HCCC feels that this problem is an important one and we are bringing it to your attention by inserting a memo bulletin in this issue of our
newsletter. Although it is not the intention of this chamber to take a political stance regarding this matter, it is our intent, and we feel, obligation, to support issues that affect those within our communities, and to support positions that work towards their resolution.
Proper fire protection due to an inadequate availability of water is one concern that affects everyone and is as yet unresolved. We are providing you with the facts that were given to our chamber by Fire Chief Charles Ivy. After our members have had the opportunity to review the information provided, we will contact you and ask you a series of questions. The results of that survey will be compiled, reviewed, and help the board to determine if our members want the chamber to take further action. If there is not at least 80% support of a position by responding members, the chamber will take no further action.
Currently, many of our schools are 100% unprotected, we have a lack of water access, inadequate lines, and most areas have no fire hydrants, please consider the importance of these issues, your cooperation when contacted by the board would be greatly appreciated.
